Donzel Washington Lovelace
Donzel W. Lovelace was born on Sunday, January 1, 1950, to the union of George Washington and Julia Cockrell Beasley Washington. She professed her love and belief in Christ at an early age at Greater Friendship Baptist Church. She was affectionally called “Donnie.”
Donzel was preceded in death by her first-born son, Walter A. Lovelace, Jr. Donnie’s parents and all her siblings preceded her in death: Birdell Jackson, Elizabeth Hayden, Walter Beasley, James Beasley, Lionel Beasley, and Wiley Beasley.
Donzel is survived by her husband of nearly fifty-two years, Walter A. Lovelace, Sr.; two sons, Roderick D. Lovelace and Sydney R. Lovelace; two grandchildren, Walter A. Lovelace III and Cadence N. Lovelace; two great-grandchildren, Kendyll A. Lovelace and Trey A. Lovelace; three sisters-in-law, Marcelle Beasley, Annie L. Avant and Patricia Lovelace; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Donzel lived and enjoyed her life to the fullest. She was an amazingly strong woman despite all her health challenges – she was a fighter. She never complained about her condition. When asked how she was doing, she happily said, “I am still kickin’. But I ain’t kickin’ high.” Her final earthly kick was peacefully at home on Thursday, November 3, 2022, with her husband by her side. Donzel’s smile, spirit, and laugh will continue to fill the rooms of the house she made a home, where everyone was welcomed. As the First Lady of the Lovelace Family and the matriarch of Beasley-Washington tribe “Aunt Donnie” will greatly be missed.

May God bless you, abundantly! – The Lovelace Family
