Elder Katie L. Lewis
Elder Katie Lee Lewis was born on December 13, 1943 in Natchez, Alabama to the late Robert and Elizabeth Lewis. She was the fourth of nine children. Katie grew up in a loving and spiritual home. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Jimmie Lewis; one sister, Mittie Caldwell; two brothers-in-law, Mack Biggs, Roosevelt Caldwell and one sister-in-law, Annie Mae Lewis.
Katie attended Monroe Training High School which is now J.F. Shield High School, in Beatrice, Alabama and graduated in 1962. During her high school years she played softball. She graduated and went off to New York, right after graduation. She worked at Self-Help Health Aid in 1976 for over 25 years in Brooklyn, New York.
Katie went to New York City at the age of 18 years old. It was in New York that she met the late Bishop Reva Butcher-Campbell, Pastor and founder of the Mount Sharon Highter Ground Pentecostal Church, Inc. in Brooklyn N.Y., through her older sister, the late Elder Mittie Caldwell. Shortly after, Katie joined The Mount Sharon Higher Ground Pentecostal Church. It was Bishop R. Butcher that introduced Katie to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Katie grew close to her Pastor and mentor as she grew close to Christ. She was very dedicated to Bishop R. Butcher and to her church. She served as Pastor’s adjutant for several years. Under the tutelage of our Bishop she came up through the ranks as Missionary, Minister, Evangelist and Elder. She served under Pastor Dennis Butcher.
After the passing of her late Bishop R. Butcher, Elder Lewis eventually returned home to Repton, Alabama in 2003. In 205, Elder Lewis, once again through her sister, was introduced to Pastor Eulean Millender and joined the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Repton, Alabama. In January 2006, under the leadership of Pastor Eulean Millender and became a Sunday school teacher. She loved to teach the Word of God and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a faithful member and she loved her church family, especially her Pastor.
Elder Lewis spent her last days in the Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, AL. She closed her eyes to sleep on August 16, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory three children, Bennie Earl Andrews, Reva Bell Lewis and Erica Okema Grace; nine grandchildren, Alvin Johns, Laportia Andrews, Bennie Andrews Jr., Ebony Briscoe, Mo-Nae Andrews, Niyana Littlejohn, Johnathan Lewis, Jasiah Grace and Melanie Bivens; god-children, Laketia Simmons of New York City, Jabar Elisha Brice of NY and Daniel Allen of SC; four great grandchildren, Sade Felder, Jayden Lee, Tyrell Felder Jr. and Alila Bella Johns; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann Biggs of Monroeville, AL, Joyce and Curtis Richardson of Repton, AL and Mildred and Calvin Johnson of Repton, AL; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Shirley Lewis of Brooklyn, NY, Minter and Frances Lewis of Repton, AL and John and Linda Lewis of Repton, AL and a host of other relatives and friends.
Yes at 9years old Katie lee adopted me Francis smith -lewis I would think she wouldn’t want me out of this . She raised me was my saving grace during her funeral nothing hurt more then not hearing my name she was my mother too the best one she gave me what no one could love and consistency. Please revice this and fix for my mother sake and the respect of the family. Thank you
