Mr. Jerome James Jones
Jerome James Jones “Bookie” departed this life on Friday, March 6, 2015 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama. He was born to Marie Williams Poindexter and the late Eddie Jones in Conecuh County Alabama.
Jerome joined the Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He obtained his education at the Sandy Grove School and Conecuh County Training School where he graduated with honors. He joined the United States Army and served his country for four years. He attended Strayer College in Maryland for two years. He was employed by the U.S. Government Printing Office, printing all publications for our Congress and the President of the United States, for 35 years until he retired. In 1965 he married Betty Carol Martin, they lived in Maryland for 41 years. He spent the last nine years of his life in Montgomery, Alabama.
He leaves to cherish his memories a wife, Betty C. Jones; two daughters, Carmen R. (David) Lee Sr. and Nicole M. Jones, both of Maryland; his mother, Marie Williams Poindexter of Brewton, AL; three grandchildren, David P. Lee Jr., Kyle M. Lee ad Tyler J. Lee; one great grandchild, David P. Lee III; five sisters, Dora J. King of Brewton, AL, Eunice (Adlai) Davenport, Linda (Theodore) Jackson, both of New Orleans, Eddie Mae Jones of Bessemer, AL and Sandra Louise (Sollthern Gary) Brown of Birmingham, AL; six brothers, Everett (Diane) Poindexter of Missouri City, TX, Price Poindexter of Brewton, AL, Terrance Poindexter of New Orleans, LA, John (Ruthie Mae) Freeney of Gainesville, FL, Clifford (Luver) Jones of Los Angeles, CA and Harvey Lee Jones of Bessemer, AL; one brother-in-law, Robert (Thelma) Martin of Maryland; one sister-in-law, Gloria Jean (Robert) Armstrong of Evergreen, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
