Mr. Robert D. Moore
Robert Devell Moore was born November 8, 1958 in Jena, Louisiana to the late John Westley Moore and Louise Moore. He was the youngest of seven children. He was called to his heavenly home on Friday, April 10, 2015.
As a child, Robert attended Trout Creek Baptist Church in Goodpine, LA.
From his early childhood, Robert loved and played baseball. In 1968, the family moved to Compton, CA, where he continued to play ball. He was known around the neighborhood as “4:30”, and when asked why, he stated that “the Rifleman was his favorite TV show and it came on everyday at 4:30”.
After graduation from high school Robert signed with the Oakland Athletics in the 11th round of the 1976 amateur draft. He played his first professional season with their Class A team. He then split his last season with the California Angels, Cincinnati Reds, and the Triple A Nashville Sounds. Robert retired as a pitcher in the Major league as a San Francisco Giant.
Robert, known as “Big Money”, trained and mentored youth and potential prospects. He never turned down anyone when it came to coaching, and was truly committed to the game of baseball.
Robert was the husband of the late Cynthia Moore, and from this marriage of 30 years on child, Gena Louise Moore, was born.
In passing, he now joins his wife, mother and father, one brother, two nieces, and one nephew.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter Gena Louise Moore, two beautiful granddaughters, Jaszmine and Jayila, who he loved dearly; one brother, John W. (Felicia) Moore, four sisters: Charlotte Lewis, Elnora Walker, Betty Rae (John) Johnson, and Patricia Smith; as well as a host of several nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly, and a host of friends.
