Mrs. Katie Ruth Autrey White
A Believer in Christ, Faithful Servant, Doer of His Word and Mother to Many…she would bear the name “Momma Katie” to all those she birthed, adopted and took on as her own. Unconditional love towards anyone she encountered would become an embedded part of memories. The nickname of “Goodney” which represented all of the “Genuine Goodness” she embodied and is what she shall always be remembered for the most.
Katie Ruth (Autrey) was born in Drewry, Alabama on July 4, 1918 to the union of Andrew and Alma Autrey. She joined John L. White, a grateful husband in marriage, and moved to Brewton, Alabama where they raised five wonderful children.
She was preceded in death by a grateful husband, John L. White; a dedicated daughter, Lenestine Sanders Woods; a loving son, Robert E. White; her beloved step-children, Bill Betts, Richard (Margaret – SS) Betts and Sheila Betts; her two loving parents, Andrew and Alma Autry and three brothers and five sisters. Now she leaves to cherish her memory a son, John T. (JoAnn) White of Brewton, AL and two daughters, Elizabeth Ashwood relocated from Ocala, FL and Kathy (Willie James) Benjamin of Brewton, AL, all of whom would attend, join and accept baptism within the confines of Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church.
Mrs. White would live to be 104 years young, passing in the comfort of her home. She would often state, “Bring me my flowers while I can still see and smell them.” She did just that enjoying daily calls and visits from a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
