Ms. Annie Dell Jackson
July 16, 1928 – February 28, 2013
A Journey Begins . . .
Hush! Let your crying eyes cease, for my love ones, I have found true peace. May the memories we shared sustain you and the love that our family and friends share see you through.
The Lord is merciful and true and in my absence, He will continue to take care of you. So hush, dry your tears and smile, because we will only be apart for a little while.
A Time to be Born . . .
Annie Dell Chatman-Jackson was born July 16, 1928 in Evergreen, Alabama to the late Charlie and Lydia Evans Chatman.
A Time to Grow . . .
After completing high school, at CCTS Class of 1948, Annie Dell furthered her education at Bishop State Community College in Mobile, AL with a degree in cosmetology, and obtaining her B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Alabama State University, Montgomery, AL. She began her career teaching in the Little Zion and Green Street communities and later taught at Evergreen City School. She retired after 34 years of teaching first grade elementary education.
Annie Dell was also an active member of the Les Comrade Club until her illness took effect.
A Time to Love . . .
Annie Dell married James Jackson, Jr. who preceded her in death along with her daughter, Tiphine Ann Jackson-Elliott.
“Aunt D”, “Ma Dea” and “Mei Mei” was known throughout the community for educating and mentoring many. She enjoyed laughing and talking with family and friends, traveling, dancing, farming and gardening.
A Time to Witness . . .
At an early age, she confessed Christ as her Savior and joined the Milledgeville A.M.E. Zion Church.
A Time to Die . . .
God saw the road was getting rough; the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her loving eyes and whispered “Peace Be Thine”. Her weary hours, her days of pain and her sleepless nights are passed. Her ever patient, worn out frame has found sweet rest at last. On Thursday, February 28, 2013, after a lengthy illness, she crossed the River Jordan to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Time to Mourn . . .
She leaves to cherish her memories: one daughter, Jenifer Jackson; seven grandchildren: Tiphine, James, Benjamin, Alonzo, Correy, Lorenzo, and Ontavia Grace; two great-grandchildren: Taniya and Taliya Lee; a special friend: Mr. George McCall, Evergreen, AL; devoted friends and caregivers: Mrs. Janelle Riley, Mrs. Lynell Drakeford, Mrs. Margaret Pressley, Anthony and Angels Watson, and a host of special cousins and friends whom she held close to her heart.
Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair;
Perhaps you sent a floral spray, if so we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, that any friend could say;
Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day.
Whatever you did to console our hears,
We thank you so much, whatever the part.
Special thanks to the staff, nurses, and aides of Covenant Hospice, Joyce Goldenburg, Hospice Inpatient Residence of Pensacola, FL, Dr. Karen Ogle, Dr. Herbert Gannon, Rachel Goodlo CRNP, Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald, Dr. Stanley Barnes, Evergreen Nursing Home, Evergreen Medical Center, EMC Hospice, EMC Home Health, D.W.
