Ms. Essie Lee Holder
Essie Lee Carter Holder was born to the late Gussie Carter Sanders and Lewis Carter in Conecuh County, Alabama on September 18, 1926. She departed this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her home in Evergreen, Alabama. Essie now joins her deceased husband, James Holder, her parents, three children, a brother, and a sister.
Essie joined the Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, where she served as a Deaconess and a dedicated member of the Little Zion Home Burial Society, until the Lord called her home.
Essie received her education in the Conecuh County School System.
She was employed with the family of Sam Cope until her retirement. She remained devoted to the Cope Family and the family of Mr. Ed Moore.
Essie’s passion was cooking and working in the church. She had a unique way of lifting the most inner spirit of the people around her. She was very “outspoken,” but she strived in getting along with people. She loved people, sharing, and helping others.
Essie leaves to cherish her memories three children; two sons: Leroy Carter of Cincinnati, Ohio, James (Marsha) Holder of Evergreen, Alabama; one daughter, Essie (Howard) Likely of Brewton, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two devoted nieces: Carolyn Hines and Elizabeth Watkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
