Ms. Evelyn Mitchell
On Saturday, June 11, 2016, God assigned an angel of mercy to whisper the good news to Sister Evelyn Anita Mitchell that it was now time to come rest. So Evelyn made her transition from this place to paradise into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Sister Evelyn was born on September 20, 1950 in Brewton, AL to the late D.C. and Anita Union. She was the second child of six children born from that union. She was affectionately known as “Aw” by her husband, nieces and nephews.
At an early age, she joined the Second St. Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. Later in life she united with Apostolic Truth Tabernacle under the leadership of Pastor Jason Shufford where she remained a faithful and loyal member until her health failed and God called her home.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Robert Mitchell on November 4, 1982 where they combined and added to their wonderful children.
She was employed for many years with Escambia County School System as a cook at W. S. Neal Elementary School. Her ministry was cooking and serving others. She was known for providing meals to family, friends and many loved ones. Evelyn was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, friend and church member. She will be greatly missed by many.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, David Union and parents, D.C. Union and Anita Williams Union. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 33 years, Robert Mitchell of Brewton, AL; two daughters, Anita (Walter) Dick of Brown Summit, NC and Susan Brand of Danville, VA; four sons, James Garrett of Greensboro, NC, William Garrett of Columbia, SC, Sylvester Mitchell IV of Augusta, GA and Rodney Brand of Brewton, AL; two step-sons, Tommy Mitchell of Brewton, AL and Robert Prime of Saint Cloud, MN; 17 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Ida) Union of Jersey City, NJ and Danny Union of Brewton, AL; two sisters, Ann Bowens and Glennie (Large) Culliver both of Brewton, AL; brothers-in-law, J.
