Ms. Gloria Gray
Whatsoever is good and perfect comes to us from God above, who created all heaven’s lights (James 1:7). Gloria (Lessie) Gray was a good and perfect gift given to the late Rev. John Henry and Eva Mae Williams on September 25, 1941 in Rome, Alabama. She accepted Jesus into her heart as a child under her father’s ministry. During a recent stay in the hospital, she repented, rededicated her life to God, and remained faithful until her death, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014.
She was raised under the hands of Godly parents that taught her the golden rules of life, Christian work ethics, and to be loving and hospitable, which paid off naturally and spiritually throughout her life. The more she gave, the more she had to give.
Lessie was so full of life, laughter, and love for all to see, and feel. Family and friends visited her home throughout her adult life and enjoyed her meals that she loved preparing and got so much joy in making sure everyone had enough.
She attended Covington County Schools, met and married the love of her life, Lewis Coolidge Gray, and moved away to New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed her college degree in Childhood Education, and received other higher degrees and certificates to better qualify herself for teaching and children that she loved so dearly. She had so many special awards and accomplishments during her many years of teaching school. She and her husband lived in New Orleans until August, 2005, retired and moved to Brewton, Alabama to reunite with old friends and be closer to family.
Lessie was very intellectual, but extremely humorous. She could me you have a bent over “belly” laugh until tears streamed down your face.
She leaves to cherish her memories a very loving and devoted husband of over fifty years, Lewis Coolidge Gray; three brothers: Ben Williams, Aaron (Betty) Williams, Sr., Mansfield, Ohia; Cleveland (Estherlee), Lockhart, Alabama; four sisters: Eloise W. Judson, Lockhart, Alabama; Areather W. Darrington, Selma, Al; Fannie W. Jones, Mansfield, Ohio, and Annest (Robert) W. Evans, Kissimmee, Florida. She never birthed children of her own, but had several God Children and many nieces and nephews that she treated like she was their natural mother. She also leaves many cousins, friends, and other relatives to cherish her memories. She was preceded in death by sixteen siblings.
